Legacy Giving
Give the Gift of a Lifetime
What is Legacy Giving?
Legacy Giving means you create a charitable gift now that goes to the organization or charity you love in the future, usually when you die.
It takes some thought and preparation, and you should consult a lawyer and your financial advisor about it. The easiest Legacy Gift can be included as part of your will.
Types of Legacy Gifts
-
Make Nanaimo Community Hospice a beneficiary in your will and know that your legacy will live on for generations. Consult with your lawyer and financial professionals for advice about how best to do this for your situation. In addition, a tax receipt for the full amount of your donation will be issued and may offset capital gains or other taxes payable to lessen the financial cost on your estate.
-
Donating non-registered stocks, mutual funds or other types of marketable securities directly to a registered charity exempts you from paying tax on capital gains on those securities. You will also get a tax receipt for the full amount of the gift. This can be done while you are living.
For electronic transfer, please contact your broker or advisor and fill out a Securities Transfer Form.
-
Retirement funds are likely among the most heavily taxed assets you own. Naming Nanaimo Community Hospice as a beneficiary can be an effective way of creating a tax-smart estate plan.
By doing so you:
receive a tax receipt for the full amount donated
avoid probate fees
reduce your estate taxes
-
You can create an endowment fund by donating cash or assets.
Endowment funds may be pooled, and individual endowments may require a minimum contribution.
